Music with identity for your project
Composition and production of original music for audiovisual and performing arts
hola@nicomendezlucas.cat

Music for the campaign on the 30 km/h city speed limit. A piece that accompanies without dramatizing: the message carries enough weight on its own.

Sound identity for all the audiovisual production of the project: thirteen partners from eight countries working on citizen energy communities.

Music for pieces built from recovered home material: family films, photographs and neighbourhood memory.
A few more examples of my work: compositions for Crecer en la ciudad, an educational programme of audiovisual pieces from the Espacio Abierto Quinta de los Molinos of the Madrid City Council; for a documentary short film for the Lanzarote Biosphere Reserve, awaiting release; or for the play Soc una ciclopeta, by the company Pea Green Boat. Several of my pieces have been theme tunes for radio programmes in Spain and Germany.
Dani Gómez and I locked ourselves in with a washing machine, a printer, saucepans, cutlery, doors and the sound of workers putting up scaffolding, and from there we built a cinematic, experimental album. Original compositions that move between experimental music, European traditions and circus music.
This album gathers some of the compositions created for the project Surfin Recreo. Very visual pieces with a cinematic air, combining sound exploration and moments of play. Live, everything revolves around detail, listening and a living dynamic, based on expressiveness and dialogue between the musicians.

I compose from observation. Before writing a note, I want to understand what is really happening in the work: what emotion holds the scene, and what lies beneath the visible.
I like working with acoustic instruments, organic sounds and everyday objects. Textures and details that are barely heard, but that give cohesion and help connect with the work. I don’t want the music to impose itself, but to accompany and add.
The predictable bores me. Within each piece I look for things to happen: harmonic variations, small surprises, without distracting from the work. That richness can appear as brushstrokes or with force when the narrative asks for it.
I don’t believe in music as filler. Some moments call for silence, and respecting it is part of the process.
Efficiency sometimes demands simpler, quicker solutions, but never at the expense of style.
Music for film, documentary, advertising, animation, theatre and dance.
